Khatu first, always. The Khatu temple shuts for a few hours in the afternoon, while Salasar stays open most of the day. Start with Shyam Baba in the morning and Balaji after, and neither closure gets in your way. Done the other way round, you reach Khatu just as it closes and lose two or three hours waiting.

How the day goes

This is an ordinary weekday. On Ekadashi start an hour earlier and expect the Khatu queue to take longer.

5:00 AM

Pickup anywhere in Jaipur

Home, hotel or station. On Ekadashi we start at 4–4:30 AM.

7:00 AM

Khatu Shyam Ji

Darshan while the morning is still calm, then Shyam Kund. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours on a normal day.

9:30 AM

On to Salasar

Breakfast on the way. The road runs through Sikar, about 2 to 2.5 hours.

12:00 PM

Salasar Balaji

Darshan and offerings. Many families tie a coconut here with a wish. Allow 1 to 1.5 hours.

1:30 PM

Lunch near the temple

Simple vegetarian bhojanalayas all around the temple. The driver will point you to the clean ones.

2:30 PM

Start back

The longest leg of the day, about 170 km. A good time for a nap.

7:00 PM

Home in Jaipur

Usually between 6:30 and 8, depending on the queues at both temples.

The two temples

Khatu Shyam Ji

Shyam Baba’s temple in Sikar district. Morning darshan runs roughly 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM in summer and 5:30 AM to 1 PM in winter, then the temple closes until the evening. Ekadashi is the big monthly day, and the Phalgun Mela in February–March draws lakhs. Full timings and tips are on our Jaipur to Khatu Shyam Ji guide.

Salasar Balaji

The Hanuman temple in Churu district, known for its bearded, moustached Balaji. Devotees tie coconuts here with a wish. It is open from early morning until late evening; Tuesdays and Saturdays are the most crowded, and Hanuman Jayanti brings the year’s biggest rush.

Temple timings change on festival days and at short notice. If you are going for a particular aarti, message us the day before and we will check.

Make it your own

  • Two days instead of one. With elderly parents, a night near Salasar or Khatu turns a tiring day into an easy one. Ask us for the two-day fare.
  • Add Jeen Mata. Many families make it a trio. It lengthens the day, so tell us when you enquire and we will plan the timing.
  • Just Khatu. If a 15-hour day is too much, the Khatu Shyam same-day trip gets you home by lunch.
  • Bigger groups. 17 and 26-seat vehicles for mandals and extended families. See the Tempo Traveller page.

Frequently asked questions

Can we do Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji in one day from Jaipur?

Yes. It is a long but very doable day of 14–15 hours: leave Jaipur at 5 AM, Khatu darshan in the morning, Salasar by lunchtime, and home around 7–8 PM. Roughly 375 km in all, with about 8 hours of that spent driving.

How far is Salasar Balaji from Khatu Shyam?

About 105 km, 2 to 2.5 hours by road via Sikar. From Salasar back to Jaipur is about 170 km, or 3.5–4 hours.

What is the fare for the Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji trip?

₹7,000 by AC sedan, ₹8,600 by Ertiga, ₹9,650 by Innova Crysta and ₹19,650 by 12-seater Tempo Traveller. That covers the car and driver for the whole day, waiting at both temples, fuel, tolls and parking. GST 5% extra.

Which temple should we visit first?

Khatu Shyam. The Khatu temple closes for a few hours in the afternoon, while Salasar stays open most of the day. Doing Khatu in the morning and Salasar after lunch means neither closure catches you out.

What time should we leave Jaipur?

By 5 AM on a normal day. If your date falls on Ekadashi, leave at 4–4:30 AM, because the Khatu queue grows quickly after 9.

Is this too tiring for elderly parents?

It is a long day in the car. Most people manage it fine, but if your parents tire easily, splitting it over two days with a night near Salasar or Khatu is kinder. Ask us on WhatsApp and we will quote the two-day version.

Do you have bigger vehicles for a group or mandal?

Yes. The 12-seater Tempo Traveller is ₹19,650 for the full circuit, and we also run 17 and 26-seaters for larger groups. See our Tempo Traveller page or send us your group size.
