Golden Triangle + Ranthambore Tiger Safari — 6 Days, 5 Nights
The classic three cities plus a real Indian tiger in his actual habitat. Two safaris at Ranthambore, two nights inside the forest reserve.
Why book this tour
Real wild tigers
Ranthambore is one of India's top 3 tiger reserves. Two safaris (morning + afternoon) gives you a 70%+ chance of a sighting. We've had guests see tigers within 20 minutes of entering the park.
Jungle lodge, not just a hotel
Two nights at a forest-edge property where you fall asleep to actual jungle sounds. Not a city Holiday Inn. Lodges with their own naturalists who'll show you ruins and lakes few tourists see.
Logistics handled
Safari permits are a permit-system lottery in India. We book yours 90 days in advance. Forget it; turn up; we hand you the ticket.
Most travelers who add Ranthambore to their Golden Triangle have one specific dream: seeing a tiger in the wild. We won't promise it — nobody honest will. We can promise this: we book Zone 1-5 safari permits (the zones with highest sighting rates), we use Canter or Gypsy depending on your group, and the guide assigned to your jeep is one of the top three naturalists in the park. The rest is up to the tigers.
What the Ranthambore add-on actually feels like
You'll arrive Ranthambore from Agra on Day 3 afternoon (4-hr drive). After check-in at the forest lodge, you might do an evening bird-walk near the lodge property. Day 4 starts at 6 AM — a morning safari in a 6-seater Gypsy jeep, then breakfast back at the lodge, a leisurely afternoon (pool, lunch, a nap), then another safari at 3 PM. Day 5 morning: a short Ranthambore Fort visit (the fort is technically inside the park) and then drive to Jaipur (3.5 hrs). It's the most varied two days of the entire itinerary.

Glimpses From The Journey
Your Questions, Answered
What are the chances of seeing a tiger at Ranthambore?
March-April: 70-80% across two safaris. October-February: 50-65%. With three safaris (you can pay for one extra) the odds go to 85%+. We've had repeat guests who saw 4 tigers in a single safari, and others who saw none. We won't lie to you — it's wildlife, not a zoo.
Can we choose Gypsy or Canter?
Yes. Gypsy is a 6-seater open jeep — better for photos and a more intimate experience. Canter is a 20-seater open truck — less expensive (-$30/person) but more crowded. For tiger photography, always choose Gypsy. Private full-Gypsy upgrade is +$60/safari.
Is Ranthambore safe?
Yes — extremely. You're always in a vehicle, accompanied by a park guide and a forest department naturalist. The tigers are habituated to vehicles (they ignore them). Lodges are fenced. No incidents in our 200+ trips.
Which forest lodge will we stay at?
Our 4-star default is Ranthambhore Regency or Tigress Resort — both 4-star forest-edge lodges with pools, AC rooms, jungle decor, and English-fluent staff. For 5-star, we upgrade to Sher Bagh by Sujan or Aman-i-Khas — both world-class wildlife resorts (Aman-i-Khas is famous for hosting Bill Gates).
Can kids do the safari?
Yes — minimum age is 4 years. Kids under 8 ride free in the Gypsy. Bring binoculars (some lodges loan them). The morning safari is more kid-friendly than the afternoon (cooler, more animal activity).
What if I miss the tiger?
We'll feel as sad as you. But Ranthambore is also famous for leopards, sloth bears, jackals, sambar deer, marsh crocodiles, and 300+ bird species. We've had guests say afterward 'we didn't see a tiger but the trip was still worth it'. The park itself is stunning — ancient banyan trees, ruined temples, lakes with marsh crocs.
Is the Ranthambore Fort visit worth it?
Absolutely. It's 1,000+ years old, inside the tiger reserve, mostly empty of tourists, and the views from the ramparts are extraordinary. The Trinetra Ganesha temple at the top is a major Hindu pilgrimage site where invitations are still mailed to Lord Ganesha by name.
Can we add more safaris?
Yes — one additional safari is $80/person. Some travelers do 3-4 safaris over 3 days. We can extend to a 7-day version.
What about leopards or other Indian safari parks?
If tigers don't fit your dates, consider Jhalana Leopard Reserve right in Jaipur — much shorter, no Ranthambore detour needed. Email us; we'll route the right park for your timeframe.
Is photography allowed?
Yes, including drones with permit (we can apply). DSLR/mirrorless cameras with telephoto lenses (200-400mm) are ideal for tigers. Phone cameras work for general jungle, not for tigers (they're often 30-50m away).
